Feeding Koi & PondFish

Food Quality for Healthier Ponds

To achieve a healthy, trouble-free pond it is essential to feed a good quality food. Here are some top reasons why investing in a quality diet really does pay for itself in the long-run:

Healthier Fish

A diet with the correct quality and balance of nutrients will keep your fish healthier and more colourful, and reduce the chances of them getting sick.

Clearer Water

Good quality foods are easier to digest, leading to less solid waste production and thus clearer water.

Less Algae

Fish fed on good quality foods release less phosphate and nitrogen into the water. These are key algae nutrients, so feeding a good quality food helps to reduce problems with green water and blanketweed.

Koi Foods

Foods developed specifically for koi, with the correct balance of nutrients and additional colour-enhancing ingredients to promote their natural colours. Specialist koi foods are designed to maintain the health, condition and appearance of top quality koi.

Cold Weather Foods

During the colder months pond fish benefit from being fed a diet rich in highly digestible wheatgerm. Foods such as Wheatgerm Sticks keep fish in top condition through the winter, ensuring they are healthier and stronger for the spring. These diets should be fed once the temperature is below 10˚C, as and when fish are active.

How much to feed

The amount of food your fish need depends on the temperature of the water, hence why they are more active in the summer. To ensure you adjust to their changing requirements, you should observe your fish feeding. Offer only as much as they can consume within a few minutes. This should be done 2-3 times a day during the spring and summer, and 1-2 times a day during the autumn and winter.
